Intercession
===
[00:00:00] Let's talk about all the worries and concerns that you have about your child's current struggles, or who they have in their lives as their trusted friends, or even who they're gonna marry someday. I know you're hoping to protect them from afar, even when they're grown and out of the house. And yes, some of this is simply out of our control.
But nothing is out of God's control. So that's the truth that I want to encourage you with today. You may not be able to fix everything or prevent every hurt, but you have direct access to the one who can move in ways that you never could, and that is the power of prayer. So today we're diving into the power of praying parents, because while we might not be able to micromanage our kids' lives and nor should we, we can absolutely cover them in prayer and we can trust that God is at work.
Hey friends. Welcome back to Raising Faithful Families. I'm your host, Katy Bordeaux. I'm so glad you're joining us. Today we're talking about what it means to intercede for our children [00:01:00] through prayer. This is something that's made a big impact in my parenting, and I've seen the fruit of it even in little everyday moments.
Intercession simply means standing in the gap and preying on someone else's behalf. As parents. Interceding for our children means we bring their needs, their struggles, and their future before God. We ask him to move in ways that only he can. It's one of the most powerful and loving acts that we can offer them.
But before we dive in, I'd love to ask you for a quick favor. If you've been encouraged by this podcast, would you take just a moment? To leave a written five star review on Apple podcasts, not only does it help my show grow and reach new families who need this encouragement, it also just means the world to me.
And I thought that it would be fun to share these on our podcast. So here is one of our reviews. What a great Christian parenting podcast. Katie does a great job of combining scripture and parenting tactics without beating the listener over the head with the scripture. There's a lot of nuggets in here for parenting that [00:02:00] Christians and non-believers can use as well.
Katie provides personal life experiences alongside Biblical truth, and it makes for an easy to listen to podcasts that can provide insight and knowledge while being interesting and not preachy. Thank you so much. Reading these just confirms that this call in God has placed on my heart is actually having a real life impact, and I am so, so grateful for that.
Okay, so let's get into today's episode. Let's talk biblical power of intercession. All throughout scripture, we see the power of intercession, people crying out to God on behalf of others, and God moving powerfully in response. James five verse 16 tells us the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
Philippians four verse six reminds us in everything by prayer and petition with Thanksgiving, prevent your request to God. And one Thessalonians five, verse 17, pray without ceasing. [00:03:00] This is one of our highest callings. Not to control our children's lives, but to cover them. Not to panic about what's ahead, but to partner with God in shaping their future.
Just recently, my son was tired a few hours earlier than normal and he really wanted to cuddle, which is of course the first sign that something's off. 'cause kids are never ready for bed earlier than they're ready for bed, you know? And when I got closer to him, his skin felt really, really warm. He'd been totally fine all day, but when I checked, he did have a fever.
Now, if you're a parent, you probably know how this goes. Fever at bedtime usually means throwing up in the middle of the night all night. Now, I don't understand why exactly that is. They're always miraculously healed during the day and then sick all night. So I don't know if there's some type of science behind that, but anyway.
He said, I really hope I don't get sick. And I decided, let's just say a prayer together. Let's ask God for exactly that instead of just hoping for it. So we asked God to [00:04:00] bring healing, to help his body rest, to protect him from getting sick throughout the night. And the next morning his eyes opened and the first thing he said was, I didn't get sick.
So then of course, we thank God for answering our prayer, and it was such a sweet reminder that God sees us and he cares. Even about the little things and the very normal human challenges that we face day to day now, would we have still trusted him even if my son had gotten sick? Yes, of course. But it was a positive moment of seeing God's power and love for us in real time, and it was a building block into my son's faith and his character of reaching out to God instead of just wishing and hoping for things.
It reminded me that this is the kind of parent that I want to be. I don't wanna be the source of every solution. I want to be the one who teaches that God is the source of every solution. So here are a few key areas that I believe are important to pray over our children, and they can be a great place to start if you haven't already.
So number one is their [00:05:00] health. Number two is their protection. Three, purity of heart. Four, discernment, five, identity and calling, and six, the relationships. You don't have to pray for all of these every day, but maybe choose one that you're gonna focus on this week. Surrender it to God and trust that he is listening to you and he is working on your behalf and on your child's behalf.
If you need a starting place, here's a simple prayer that you can make your own. Lord, thank you for the child that you've entrusted to me. I know I can't control everything about their future, but I trust that you are already there. Protect them, guide them, shape their heart, and help me to release my worry into your hands.
Lord, help me to be a faithful steward of this life that you've given me to love and guide in the ways that are pleasing to you. In Jesus name, amen. Friend, your prayers matter, not because of how you say them, but because of who you're saying them to. God sees [00:06:00] you. He hears you, and he delights in responding to the faith of a praying parent.
So whatever's on your heart today, your child's health, their future spouse, their struggles with their confidence, their friendships, bring it all to him, surrender it to him. He is more than able, and your prayers are planting seeds in soil that he's already working in on your behalf.
